motorway Definitions

 "A Motorway is designated under The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which provides traffic authorities with the authority to regulate traffic within their area. Sections 17 and 17A of the Act provide for the regulation of traffic on special roads. 17(1) A special road shall not be used except by traffic of a class authorised to do so. 17(2) The Secretary of State may make regulations with respect to the use of special roads. (see the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 and the Motorways (Speed Limit) Regulations 1974). The regulations can ensure that the road is only used by certain classes of vehicle or make provision for a particular special road etc."
